What Matters Most
There comes a time in our existence, when we realize where we need our priorities to lie. For some it takes quite a bit of time to come to this realization. Thankfully, I have been hyper aware of this for much of my life. Well, maybe not entirely, thankfully. Being acutely aware of mortality and our short time here on Earth makes it difficult to find patience at times. Leading to feelings of not wanting to be disciplined to do the hard things now so that the easy and fun things can be enjoyed later. In other words, it can lead to a need for instant gratification out of fear that there will not be a later.
Let me give you a little backstory before we go much further.
When I was 17 my niece whom I was not very close to and was only 4 years old died, in a tragic although preventable accident. I am not going to elaborate further on the details or other circumstances surrounding it, however I will say that I believe her death was the beginning of my impatient sort of view on life. I saw first hand how fragile and fleeting our lives are.
The thankful part?
I have been unwilling to accept spending much time on things that do not serve my purpose. My purpose is to be a loving mommy and wife. Pretty basic, but this is what means the world to ME. It is my calling. The society in which I live has downplayed the importance of this role and made it exceptionally difficult to achieve and yes, some days I feel defeated and I feel the pressure to give in to the expectation to have a "real" job. Over the years it has sometimes been a difficult road to take when trying to provide financially for my family as the days of a one income household are gone. But guess what. I made it through. I always found ways to contribute to our finances and it has gotten easier. I have found my place. I have found my means to continue the ongoing journey within my WHY.
So, why am I telling you all of this?
I have noticed so many of us are so disconnected from the reality of the fact that we ARE going to die. I see people complaining and not doing anything about it. I see people who are clearly not spending time doing what is important to them. I see people who stay in jobs, relationships, circumstances, etc. that make them miserable. I see people who hate Monday and are jealous of those who follow their purpose. Why? Every moment of your life could be your last. Yes, we have responsibilities, yes we have obligations, yes we have schedules. However the reality of it is, we above all have CHOICES. We can choose to change our responsibilities, obligations and schedules. We do not have to continue with the status quo if it does not truly fill our hearts with happiness. Of course there will always be something that is not what you expected or wanted it to be, but that does not mean that you have to wallow in it. Move on and find what makes you happy. You hate your job? Get a new one that you love, or better yet create one that fits you perfectly. If you can't get one that you love because you don't have the education to land it, pursue the education and find fulfilment in the process. If you can't spend enough time with your loved ones, change your schedule and reassess. NOTHING IS SET IN STONE. Do what you want. There is always an alternative. Sometimes you might just have to get creative with your approach.
PLEASE, I am pleading with you. Do something NOW so that when you reach the end of your life, you can look back on the days with joy, pride and fulfilment rather than regret.
I am here to listen. I am here to help. I am a mommy and a wife, I was born to listen and help.
